Mexico City, June 12 (EFE) \u2013 The United States and Mexico are ushering in a “new era” of security cooperation against organized crime, arms trafficking, and other emerging threats, including drones, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City announced Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following a meeting between representatives of 15 U.S. government agencies and their Mexican counterparts at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, Washington highlighted the beginning of “a new era of security cooperation” between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting aimed to “drive immediate and high-impact results on shared security priorities,” according to the U.S. Embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The United States and Mexico recognize that we can achieve historic results in security cooperation when we work together,” the Embassy stated in a press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The discussions focused on combating organized crime, fuel theft, strengthening border security, and arms trafficking, as well as coordinating efforts to address emerging threats and tools, including drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the statement, both governments reaffirmed their commitment to cooperating to protect their citizens and move toward a “safer and more prosperous” region through regular meetings and enhanced bilateral coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting was part of the Bilateral Implementation Group (BIG), a mechanism that, according to the United States, represents the next stage of joint security efforts between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mechanism is part of a bilateral security strategy that has evolved from the M\u00e9rida Initiative to the Bicentennial Understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
