Every season of weddings and celebrations brings with it the same question in front of the wardrobe: how to choose a guest dress that is elegant, flattering and appropriate without falling into excess. Far from rigid outfits or impossible trends, guest fashion evolves towards more natural, versatile and personal proposals, where comfort and authenticity gain ground.

Fashion stylists Sara Duque and Hernán Ripiert defend precisely this new vision of the current guest: sophisticated, practical and true to herself. “An elegant guest is one who feels comfortable, confident and recognizable in what she wears,” they explain. The goal is to find a balance between tendency, personality, and context.
The first step is not about color or design, but about the type of celebration. The setting, time, and style of the event determine much of the subsequent decisions. “The first thing is to understand the context: a daytime wedding in the countryside is not the same as a nighttime celebration in the city,” Duque and Ripiert point out. The choice of dress must respond to this natural logic of the event and not only to aesthetic criteria. Light fabrics and soft tones tend to work best in daytime weddings and open spaces, while afternoon or evening weddings allow you to introduce more sophisticated finishes, satin fabrics or jewel details.
However, stylists insist that context should not overshadow personal identity. “The dress has to accompany the type of event, but above all it has to accompany you.” The idea of “dressing for the occasion” no longer implies giving up one’s own style. The new guest seeks to adapt without feeling unrecognizable.
The importance of choosing a flattering silhouette.
Beyond trends, the silhouette continues to be one of the decisive elements when choosing a dress. The right pattern can completely transform the perception of a garment.
From the image consultancy, experts remind us that the objective is not to hide the body, but to enhance it. “The silhouette, color and fabrics should enhance your personal style and flatter your body, not disguise it.”
In recent years, moreover, structured lines have given way to more fluid and relaxed forms. Dresses that accompany movement, soft draping and clean cuts dominate the guest collections of 2026, with brands that have positioned themselves at the forefront in virality, such as Miphai, with garments that adapt to the body and play with volumes by incorporating shawls or light capes.
Comfort thus becomes a new symbol of sophistication. A dress that is too rigid or complex can end up conditioning the attitude throughout the celebration. This includes fabrics that adapt to the body or draping and ruffles located at strategic points.
How to avoid excessive styling.
One of the most frequent mistakes in guest fashion is to build a character outside of one’s own identity. The desire to stand out or to conform to certain social codes can lead to unnatural choices. “The key is to maintain coherence with your essence,” say the stylists. “A lot of times the mistake is trying to ‘become’ someone else for a special event.”
Excessively overloaded outfits have lost strength in the face of more balanced proposals. Impossible headdresses, extreme volumes or overly artificial combinations give way to a cleaner and more functional aesthetic. “If you never wear exaggerated volumes, impossible headdresses or colors that do not represent you, that ‘look’ probably will not make you feel comfortable,” they explain.
The formula they defend is based on visual balance. “We are committed to building balanced outfits: one piece protagonist and the rest accompanying”. It can be a special dress with discreet accessories or, on the contrary, a simple design elevated by eye-catching earrings or a jewel bag.
The protagonist should not fall exclusively on clothing. “The goal is not for the dress to stand out more than you, but for the outfit to speak of your personality in a sophisticated and natural way,” they add.
Although the guest fashion has become significantly more flexible, the protocol continues to have weight. The difference is that today it is interpreted in a less strict and more contextual way.
“The protocol has evolved a lot, but it is still an important guide,” Duque and Ripiert point out. The key today is not to memorize closed rules, but to understand the tone of the event.
Today’s weddings allow for more creative and personal reinterpretations, especially among younger generations. However, certain codes are still maintained. “There are certain codes that still work, such as avoiding white and light outfits at weddings or adapting the brightness level according to the time.”
Space also plays a role. A celebration in a rural setting supports more relaxed language, while an urban or evening event may require greater sophistication. “Rather than talking about rigid rules, we are talking about knowing how to read the event,” the experts summarize.
The colors and fabrics that will dominate 2026.
This year’s guest trends reflect that pursuit of laid-back sophistication. Visual excesses lose prominence in the face of more delicate tones and fabrics with movement. “This year we see a much more sophisticated and relaxed guest at the same time,” they explain.
Among the highlighted colors are powdery tones and so-called vitamin colors. “Fluid fabrics, clean cuts and powdery or vitamin colors predominate, such as butter, terracotta, smoke blue or soft lime,” they say about a palette that fills the collections of the guest brands of the moment.

From Miphai to Vogana or Lady Pipa, names that specialize in this type of design, the color palette arrives both in plain designs and in other prints of small and large flowers.
Butter yellow is consolidated as one of the main shades of the season thanks to its discreet luminosity. Terracotta brings warmth without being strident, while smoke blue introduces a sleek, contemporary touch.
As for the fabrics, movement becomes a priority. Chiffons, light crepes and soft satin finishes favor a less rigid and more natural aesthetic. “The elegant draping, special backs and artisanal details also come back a lot.” These elements replace excessive embellishments and add visual interest without overloading the styling.
The accessories: less rigidity and more personality.
The aesthetic evolution also reaches accessories. Accessories stop responding to excessively coordinated outfits and become tools to reinforce personality. “In accessories, less rigidity and more personality,” the stylists emphasize.
Earrings take on prominence as a differentiating element, especially when the dress is committed to simple lines. “Powerful earrings, minimalist sandals and jewel bags” are part of the most repeated combinations this season.
Thin strappy sandals continue to dominate against overly bulky platforms, while small bags with special finishes remain the star accessory of celebrations. The key is once again in containment.
The idea of buying a dress to wear only once loses strength in the face of a more practical and sustainable vision of fashion consumption. “More and more women are looking to invest in versatile garments, which they can wear again, reinterpreting them in a different way,” Duque and Ripiert explain.
Reuse is no longer perceived as a limitation, but as a display of clever style. Changing accessories, modifying hairstyle or incorporating new layers allows you to completely transform the same garment. This trend also favors investment in more timeless and higher quality designs, away from ephemeral fashions.
The guest of 2026 is looking for pieces capable of adapting to different scenarios and moments, prioritizing versatility over immediate impact. A way of understanding fashion where elegance does not depend on excess, but on the coherence between the person, the occasion and the way of inhabiting the clothes.
