Tokyo, June 10 (EFE) – Japanese video game giant Nintendo announced Wednesday that it will begin selling a new version of the best-selling game ‘Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ for the Switch 2 console this year, coinciding with the saga’s 40th anniversary.
The company did not provide further details about the release date or the new features of this version, which was announced via YouTube. The trailer simply tells the game’s story through a tapestry in which the hero Link is sleeping and the Triforce begins to glow in his hand.
Released in late 1998 for the Nintendo 64 console, ‘Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ is considered one of the best video games in history, having provided an immersive 3D world and an innovative combat system that allowed players to target individual enemies.
Players controlled Link, an elf in a green tunic, as he faced the antagonist, Ganondorf, to rescue Princess Zelda.
More than a decade later, in 2011, Nintendo re-released the game for its 3DS handheld console, reviving the story that unfolds in the virtual kingdom of Hyrule.
The saga, created in February 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, has spawned more than forty titles across a wide variety of genres and has built its own unique universe through its characters, with over 156 million copies sold worldwide.
The highly anticipated anniversary, marked on the calendars of thousands of fans, had not been preceded by any announcements from the company, which prior to the event had only confirmed the start of filming for the first live-action movie inspired by the saga, set for release in May 2027.
